While biodiversity has been shown to be essential for the functioning of the planet’s ecosystems, it is facing a massive crisis. From conventions to regulations, the business and financial world is getting in order to provide an appropriate response, but biodiversity is a highly complex issue.

What you will learn

This module’s ambition is to provide you with all the essential notions that will make you a biodiversity-aware sustainable investor. Though this module, you will learn:

  • The ABC of Biodiversity: its various definitions and their origin, its complexity, the services it provides.
  • The analysis of the current biodiversity crisis: the main indicators pointing to nature loss, the key drivers of this biodiversity loss, the link and differences between biodiversity and climate.
  • The concept of double materiality and “impacts and dependencies” that are the foundations of any nature-related analysis, together with the various types of risk that companies face in relation with nature.
  • An overview of the landmark reports and global conventions that shaped the way the global community is addressing biodiversity, as well as the main frameworks and regulatory developments.
  • How do corporates address biodiversity?
  • How can investors integrate biodiversity in their investments, and act as stewards of nature through engagement?

After this module you will be armed with a deeper understanding of the multiple facets of the biodiversity issue, and will feel confident to translate this knowledge into action by being one of its stewards.
